Heroic Age: Episode 1

Ooooh! Giant Eva looking wobot in blue!

Rating:9/10

Genre: Mecha/Sci-fi

Synopsis: The premise seems to be that an advanced race called the “Golden Tribe” called out to the different races of the universe. The races that answered the call of the Golden Tribe are the “Silver Tribe”, the “Bronze Tribe”, The “Heroic Tribe” and lastly the “Iron Tribe” — to which the human race belongs. I think this is shaping up to be a galactic sci-fi battle mecha anime, but again its too soon to really tell.

I have a weakness for mecha animes. In fact it was mecha animes like Voltes V, Mazinger Z, Daimos, Voltron, Macross etc. which hooked me into animes when I was young. That’s why I always try to fit in a mecha anime in my menu every new anime season and Heroic Age is probably going to be the main course this season.

In Episode 1, Princess Deinara and crew seem to be scouring the universe looking for their “saviour”. They land on a half blown up planet that’s peopled err rather personed by just one lone human:

It seems that the boy is the only lone survivor of a human ship that crash landed(?) on the planet long ago, so he’s had to learn to fend for himself on this harsh desert-like planet with no one but the ship’s computer which he refers to as his mother, for a companion — and the octopus-like alien which he eats for food hehe.
So the princess and crew land on the planet but before they can make full contact with the boy, bug aliens that kinda look like zergs suddenly attack them and the planet. I take it these are the things human kind needs to be saved from. The zergs destroy the boy’s “mom”, boy gets pissed and turns into a giant mecha robot (I assume he turns into one, or he could just be piloting the thing) and goes on a bug killing spree.

Overall, I loved episode 1 of this anime. The graphics were viewtiful and the yet undeveloped story certainly whetted my appettite for more. The OP and ED were a bit unspectacular though but the orchestral soundtrack and the sound effects especially during the battle sequences really fleshed out the experience for me.
